Hello! I hope everyone out there had an amazing holiday! I wanted to post before Christmas, but it just didn’t happen. It has been a very eventful, with preop appointments, and MRI of the brain (no brain tumor, yay!), getting things taken care of at work, and getting Christmas things done. But I wanted to get an update in. Some words of caution when reading, I am still pretty medicated. So I’ll beg forgiveness for anything weird that pops up!
I had my preop EGD on December 10th and the doctor apparently thought I didn’t have enough on my plate, so he threw a colonoscopy in there for good measure. Both scopes were good with the exception of a hiatal hernia that was found on the EGD. I laughed out loud when he told me. The complete irony! When I had my LapBand done years ago they had to repair a large hiatal hernia. So coming full circle to having another hernia repair for this bariatric surgery hit me as funny.
The preop diet beforehand wasn’t too difficult for me – but I did cheat a bit with the holidays, but for the most part stuck with the program and managed to lose 6 pounds by surgery day. My personal goal was 10, but it didn’t happen. And while disappointing, I still achieved the goal I set out, just with a few Christmas treats here and there and literally a couple of meals out, trying to get some “last meals” for me. Just to have my own meal, since I won’t be going that path anymore. And having meals that were things that I love. Kind of makes me sound like I am dying and I kind of look at it that way, dying and being reborn into something better!
Last Tuesday, December 23rd was the big day. I could hardly stand the few weeks waiting. I have been SO excited and ready to get this done! Of course, when they told me my check-in time was 6:45am, I wasn’t too excited about that, but that small thing couldn’t bring me down! The surgery went really well. I had complete confidence in my surgeon and my care team, which I feel is so important. While I cam through surgery just fine, the decision was made for me to stay overnight in the hospital. And while I wanted to go home, staying was the best thing. I ended up receiving insulin (which I don’t normally have) to control my blood sugars and was able to keep on top of my pain. And of course they made me a mean jello to go with my chicken broth and water!

I was finally able to go home midday Christmas Eve with a whole pharmacy of meds, which has been a joy to keep track of! But that is another story! On this note, I will sign off for now, and be back with another update. There are definitely some topics I want to share my experiences with.
Thank you for checking out my blog!
